They won! The varsity boys soccer team defeated E.D. White 2-1 last night in Hammond to win the State Championship for the first time since 2014. Congrats to Coaches Ben Barcelona and Dan Perez, the fans who came out to support, and especially all the boys who worked so hard for this!

    From the above Times-Picayune recap:

After a dominating first half by the No. 2 Lions, the No. 5 Cardinals were building more and more opportunities to take the lead as the game progressed, including a penalty kick that took a miraculous save by Lusher keeper Jourdan Schumacher to keep out the back of the net.

So when junior Russell Brown saw his opportunity at the top of the box just two minutes after E.D. White’s goal, he wasn’t about to let it slip.

Brown’s shot found its target and gave Lusher back the lead. And with Schumacher securing the back line on the other end, the Lions held on to win 2-1.

We are excited to share that our Boys Varsity Soccer Team will be competing this Thursday (2/25/21) at 7:30pm in the LHSAA State Championship! After earning a bye in the first round of the playoffs, the #2 Lions defeated #15 Teurlings Catholic, #7 Vandebilt Catholic, and #3 Loyola College Prep. They will now face #5 E.D. White for the championship. The game will be held at Strawberry Stadium on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
