    —Earlier Coverage—

The varsity boys basketball team has been on fire since Christmas. After starting the ’18-’19 season 6-8, Coach Hunter Higgins’ squad finished the season on an incredible 13-3 run, earning a 6th seed and a home playoff game. The Lions will be hosting St. Michael on Tuesday night (2/26) in the Regional playoff round. Tip-off is at 6:30pm and tickets are only $7 each. The winner will move on to a Quarterfinal matchup Friday night against either De La Salle or Teurlings Catholic. Come out and support your Lions!

    A message from Dr. Corbett:

We look forward to seeing you tonight at the Boys Basketball Playoff Game. The game is at 6:30pm and tickets will be $7 for all in admission, regardless of sports passes. LHSAA requires admission for all playoff games.
For tonight’s game, please be prepared to cheer loudly and proudly for our Lusher Lions. Please also remember to maintain appropriate decorum during the game. This means we should only direct comments and celebration towards our team, and avoid any comments or negative demeanor toward the opposing team, fans, or referees. The Lion’s Den is a dangerous place to play for opposing teams. We want to keep it that way, but also want to make sure opposing teams and fans leave knowing that our students are of high character and conduct. Thank you for you support of this.
Please arrive early as we expect this to be a capacity crowd, and seating may be limited.

From the Advocate recap of the Lions’ 2/5 victory over De La Salle :

The gritty Lions have rolled to four consecutive District 10-3A victories during the past two weeks with the latest, a 64-61 conquest of De La Salle on Tuesday night, putting Lusher in outright possession of first place with two league games remaining.
Forwards Ian Kirsch and Cameron Williams each scored a game-high 19 points to pace a four-player contingent in double figures that helped the host Lions rally from a 17-10 first quarter deficit and shake loose from a 30-30 tie at halftime to break a 12-game losing streak against the Cavaliers dating to the 2012-13 season.
“We’re fighting hard right now,’’ Williams said. “We’re never giving up. When times get hard, we’re fighting through it. We’re trusting in each other and that’s really what it’s been that’s carried us.’’

The only loss in January was a 2 point heart-breaker to De La Salle, and that was followed by a resounding win over divisional leader Donaldsonville (with the help of a 36-point night by guard-forward Cameron Williams). The Lions look to push this stretch to 12-1 Friday night (2-8-19) when they travel to Donaldsonville for a rematch.

    Geaux Lions!
