Your Lusher Lions Are Headed To The Final Four!!!

With a massive home win Friday night against No. 5 St. Louis, Lusher’s Boys Varsity Basketball team is making its first Final Four appearance in school history! The boys will travel Tuesday (with a couple bus loads of student fans and teachers) to St. Charles to face Louisiana’s top-ranked Division II team, St. Thomas More (tip off is at 6:15PM).

    From this Advocate article:

“We’d never won two games in the playoffs before this, so I’m very excited for my guys,’’ Lusher coach Hunter Higgins said after the Lions defeated No. 5 St. Louis 50-44, Friday at Lusher. “It’s unbelievable. The gym was packed. The school really hasn’t had anything like this (previously). It’s an arts school, so it’s a super exciting moment for the school.’’

A District 10-3A wild card, the Lions employ a tight seven-player rotation that features three returning starters in senior guard/forward Rylan Theyard, junior forward Ian Kirsch and junior guard Nolan Hall. Kirsch scored a team-high 16 points Friday against No. 5 St. Louis.

“We’ve got a group of guys who all like each other,’’ said Higgins, Lusher’s first and only boys basketball coach. “They all play hard. I’ve had more talented groups. But they’re a really competitive group. Kirsch and Theyard are really good leaders.

“For us it’s about the defensive end. We’ve got to keep the ball in front of us. We’re very defensive-minded. We want to keep the game in the 40s and 50s. That’s important for us. We’ve got some kids who can hit shots. But to beat St. Thomas More, we’re going to have to play really, really good.’’

The Boys Varsity Basketball team had a huge playoff win at home Tuesday night, beating #13 seed Archbishop Hannan 63-50. The boys are moving on to the next round, facing #5 seed St. Louis at home Friday Night.

We need to once again fill the gym for this playoff matchup. The winner will move on to the State Final Four in Lake Charles. To encourage even more students to come out, we’ll be hosting a Fish Fry and Pizza tailgate prior to the game. A well fed student section is important, and we need you all in attendance cheering loud and proud.

So plan to be at the game Friday night, with some great food and music prior. Congratulations to our Boys Basketball team, and best of luck against St. Louis. See you in the stands.
