Lusher Students Selling Cookies For Causes

Last year, six enterprising Lusher middle school students started a fundraising organization, called Cookies for Cause, dedicated to “stopping hunger and poverty all over the world.” The students, P. Chapital; S. Drew; J. Keleher; G. Wolf; A. Blevins; and S. Roux; hold monthly bake sales throughout the city, with each sale’s proceeds dedicated to a different cause. In addition to the usual baked goods, they sell fresh-squeezed lemonade and punch in a Cookies for Cause cup. The group held a bake sale at Juan’s Flying Burrito on Magazine Street on Sept. 16 and raised $700.  All funds from their most recent sale will go to the Houston Food Bank, to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. Proceeds from their very first sale went to Water for South Sudan, an organization that builds wells in Africa. A company matched the proceeds from that sale, bringing the total to $1500. Other middle school students who help with this group include: C. Jackson; E. Francis; N. Lupin; W. Rogers; S. Richard; and I. Jabaley.
