This past weekend, Willow High School students participated in a Stage Management and Stagecraft Safety Workshop at Tulane University. Led by Willow alumna and professional stage manager Isabelle Louis, students explored the essential skills required to safely and effectively lead a theatrical production.

Through a book sale and bake sale earlier this year, Willow High School's Library Club raised enough money to buy the Brimmer campus its first ever Little Free Library! The Little Library is located at the bottom of the stairs at the Freret Street entrance. Senior Elise Celestine (pictured above) stenciled "Willow Lions" on the sides of the Little Library- more student art will be added in the future. Students, faculty, and parents/guardians are welcome to take a book, leave a book, or both! (Library Club welcomes school-appropriate book donations on an ongoing basis.) Library Club had a ribbon cutting celebration last week during the seniors' last club meeting.

The Willow track team continued to perform at an elite level at the district track meet. The girls team finished in 1st place and the boys team took 3rd!

Both poets read from their work and answered students' questions. Lacour prompted students to try writing an ode, while Price signed copies of her award winning book, I'm Always So Serious. Poets Kenyatta Rogers and SunnyLyn Thibodeaux will be visiting soon.

Olivier Limjuco participated in the Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans and Brees Dream Foundation's Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge this year for the second time and placed in semi-finals. Olivier showcased a business idea for kitchen convenience products at Loyola in March, and met and competed against students from other area high schools in a shark-tank-esque competition. Well done!

Before spring break, CA Dance I kindly hosted the CAVA I artists to draw quick gestures of their impressive dancers. The CAVA I artists - many of whom don't have much experience drawing the figure from life - had fun channeling Edgar Degas!

The Willow High School library's Spring Book Fair was a huge hit! Students enjoyed new features such as a DIY bookmark station and coffee bar, as well as a vintage physical media table, featuring records, CDs, cassette tapes, and DVDs. The most popular books purchased were Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir; Scythe by Neil Shusterman; The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath; 1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell; and I Don't Wish You Well, the latest novel by Baton Rouge author Jumata Emill. Many thanks to Blue Cypress Books for another fun-filled, one-of-a-kind Book Fair experience!
