On Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 6pm, Louisiana Education Loan Authority will present a virtual program on college financial aid & scholarships specifically prepared for Willow School seniors and families. The Zoom link and registration link was emailed to seniors and their families today.

Jerome Robbins and Robert Edwin Lee’s Inherit the Wind is a fictionalized account of the 1925 Scopes Trial, which saw a high school teacher convicted for teaching evolution to his sophomore science class.

Now in the CAVE Gallery on the 4th floor: Mixing Iroquois sensibilities and traditional craft techniques with contemporary materials and concepts, a dash of 1980/ 1990’s Northeast coast intertribal powwow culture and a heavy dose of 70’s sci-fi, Erin Lee Antorak’s artwork paints a self-portrait of a modern Iroquois woman. Working in this way, she creates a link between herself, and her ancestors, claiming her place in the chain of Iroquois women before and after her. Erin Lee Antonak is a visual artist and curator. She is a Wolf Clan member of the Oneida Indian Nation of New York. A graduate of Bard College(Annandale-on-Hudson, NY) and SUNY New Paltz (New Paltz, NY), Erin has studied at Lacoste School of the Arts (Lacoste, France), Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT) and is a Morse College Fellow at Yale University (New Haven, CT).

Dancers are preparing for the December Dance Concert with Ms. Buckels.

Cross Country Track will make its final KICK in Natchitoches, La., on Monday. Help FUEL the Cross Country Track Team with Lion Spirit as they put the HAMMER DOWN to bring home the SWAG. The Willow School had 15 students qualify to run in State Championships. Varsity Girls finished 4th overall, with three runners in the Top 25. Varsity Boys finished 3rd overall, with six runners in the Top 25. A special shout-out to Javi!! Javi ran the last mile with only one shoe, placing 4th overall!


Shakespeare scholars Bonner Cutting and Dr. Earl Showerman recently visited the high school library and spoke to creative writing students. Cutting and Showerman were here as part of the Shakespeare Oxford Fellowship Conference and discussed the Shakespeare authorship question, engaging students in Q & A.

The Willow High School Orchestra performed their Fall Concert on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church. They performed five pieces: "Carnival Overture" (Dvorak); "Variations" (Paganini); "Spring Breezes"- Taiwanese Folk Song (arranged by Meyer); "Molly on the Shore" (Grainger); "Iditarod" (Newbold).
