On May 16th, Ms. Sanchez invited four amazing guest speakers who work for New Orleans organizations that focus on making our city more environmentally sustainable. As part of their Sunship III experience, students were asked to meet local people who work in the recycling industry and other sustainable companies in New Orleans.
Regardless of attending Sunship III or not, as part of the 7th grade science curriculum, all students got an opportunity to learn about different organizations The following organizations were:
Grounds Krewe works with Mardi Gras Krewes to use sustainable throws instead of harmful plastic beads.
REALcycle works with local hotels, restaurants, schools, and other businesses to set up a recycling program.
The Green Project provides and receives household items and other reusable materials for home improvement.
The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana shared our state’s Coastal Master Plan, Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, the plan to reduce land loss and reduce our risk of storm surges along coastal Louisiana.
