This year, our middle school advisory class will incorporate Yale University's RULER program within our weekly lessons. Yale's RULER program is a social emotional learning (SEL) program developed by Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. The acronym RULER stands for the five skills of emotional intelligence: Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions.
On August 22nd, the students learned about their first RULER anchor tool- The Class Charter. During their advisory class, the students wrote a Class Charter in which they answered two questions:
How do we want to feel in our class this year?
What will we do to help ourselves and each other feel this way?
Through writing the class charters, the students made personal commitments to supporting one another and set a positive tone for working together during the school year.
