LSU climate scientists visit 7th grade

Louisiana State University climate scientists visited our 7th-grade science classes on Feb. 6.  The scientists discussed climate change with the students.  They also worked with the 7th graders to take tree core samples outside on our campus. The students learned that coring the trees does not hurt them. The core samples that the LSU climate scientists take from trees are small (less than the diameter of a pencil) and non-destructive to the tree. The tree will heal itself fairly quickly, similar to when a spout is removed after tapping a tree for maple syrup.

Thank you to LSU for their help with this important project for our students.
