In Ms. Maldonado’s 6th grade ELA class, students strengthened their editing and revision skills through a gallery walk. As they rotated around the room, they reviewed written pieces, provided feedback, and reflected on how to improve their own writing. Bravo to our 6th grade editors!

Willow 7th graders recently took a field trip to three important sites in the French Quarter. At Preservation Hall, students experienced the powerful tradition of live New Orleans jazz, while their visit to Louis Armstrong Park and Congo Square deepened their understanding of the city’s cultural roots and musical heritage. The trip concluded at the The Presbytère, where students explored engaging exhibits on Louisiana’s history and traditions. It was a meaningful and memorable day of learning beyond the classroom.

Students in our Lagniappe Gardening class sponsored by Dr. McKarty have been busy getting their hands in the soil and watching their hard work grow! This season, they have planted and are caring for a variety of vegetables, including broccoli, tomatoes, cabbage, eggplant, cucumbers, and more! Through this hands-on experience, students are learning about plant life cycles, responsibility, and the importance of healthy foods. We can’t wait to see these garden beds continue to flourish as our young gardeners nurture their crops!

Willow Middle School students on Robotics Team 60065A, "Motorized Militia," competed in the Bishop Noland Open Tournament in Lake Charles on Nov. 15, and the NorthShore Robotics Open Tournament on Dec. 13, earning Double Championships at both events.

Team members Dongchen Liu, Leo Wei and (5th grade) and Arya Ning (6th grade) made strong contributions to these victories. Although these tournaments marked the beginning of this newly formed team, their performance was outstanding. After completing the qualifying matches and skills runs, they earned 1st place overall at each tournament, winning both the Teamwork and Robot Skills championships.

Willow 5th grade grade students enjoyed a special premiere of an original short film created entirely by Mr. Ary’s Creative Writing class. The film—a modern, imaginative adaptation of One Thousand and One Nights—was written, filmed, and edited completely by the students themselves. Their clever storyline blends timeless storytelling with some of this year’s most popular trends, from mischievous Labubus to the ever-popular “six seven.”

Our middle and high school singers represented The Willow School with pride at the LMEA District VI Honor Choir this weekend.

Students spent Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15 in focused rehearsals, culminating in a beautiful Saturday afternoon performance held in the community. Guided by experienced guest conductors, both the Youth and Senior High choirs brought energy, skill, and collaboration to every moment.

A total of 11 middle grade singers and 4 high school singers participated, showcasing dedication, teamwork, and a love of music. We are proud of their commitment and the artistry they shared.

Congratulations to all who took part in this inspiring experience.
