ACT-SO

Each year, high school students across the country start a journey to sharpen their skills through the NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO). ACT-SO is an enrichment program, grounded in Social Justice and dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing opportunities for 9th-12th graders who are guided to engage in critical, evaluative dialog with community members in their areas of expertise. Through competition and enrichment programs, the New Orleans ACT-SO encourages high academic and cultural achievement among high school students. From visual arts and business to performing and culinary arts, participants work with community-based volunteers to develop their projects and performances.

This year The Willow School has two winners. Congratulations to the following NAACP ACT-SO Scholarship Competition Medalists:

Noah Henderson won the Gold Medal in Classical Instrumental Music.
Judah Dumas-Mwendo won the Bronze Medal in Classical Vocal Music.

Both Noah and Judah will be honored locally at an Award Ceremony June 17. Noah will represent the greater New Orleans area at the National NAACP ACT-SO Competition in Boston!
