Willow 7th graders Alina S., Tessa S., and Tali M., along with Dance Ensemble costume coordinator Josephine J., had a surprise backstage visit at their Spring Concert from recording artist Dawn Richard! She sat front row to watch them perform to her hit single, "Go Crazy!"
Willow 7th graders participated in a special dance workshop with Willow Graduate Courtney Paige Ross! Ross is a native New Orleanian and professional dancer, choreographer, and educator who has performed with high-profile artists like Beyoncé and Jon Batiste. She is a former member of the prestigious Ailey II dance company and currently performs with Camille A. Brown and Dancers.
In P.E. class, students have been enjoying time on the Brees Family Field with Coach Hooks, where fitness and fun go hand in hand. Through a variety of engaging games and activities, students are building teamwork, staying active, and developing important skills—all while making the most of the beautiful outdoor space.
Willow 7th grade Engineering (PLTW) students recently had an exciting field trip to Tulane University’s Makerspace, where they explored innovative tools, technologies, and the creative process behind design and fabrication. Students had the opportunity to see engineering concepts come to life in a real-world setting, sparking curiosity and inspiring future innovation. A special thank you to their teacher, Ms. Hardy-Young, for organizing this meaningful experience and supporting our students every step of the way!
Ms. Natalie’s 5th grade science classes recently celebrated Earth Day with an exciting and interactive Escape Room challenge. Students worked collaboratively to solve puzzles and complete tasks. This hands-on experience not only reinforced key science concepts but also encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for protecting our planet.
Our first group of 7th graders departs toay for an exciting overnight field trip to the Marine Education Center at USM. During their visit, students will take part in hands-on learning experiences, including a shark dissection and up-close exploration of marine life, deepening their understanding of ecosystems. To help prepare them for this experience, their science teacher, Mr. Gilbert, guided students through an engaging owl pellet dissection. This activity allowed them to practice observation and analysis skills while building confidence for the scientific investigations they will encounter on their trip.

The Willow 6th Grade Musical Theatre class had the honor of participating in a dance workshop with Carlina Parker from the Broadway tour of SIX the Musical playing at the Saenger Theatre this week. Ms. Parker is an alternate and plays various roles in the musical. Students learned choreography from the song "No Way" in this exciting, fun, and fast-paced workshop. WDSU-TV was also on campus to gather footage for the musical tour and interviewed Ms. Sepanik and student B. Stanley.
Willow 5th grade students have the awesome opportunity to participate in an exciting and meaningful experience with LOOP NOLA this year! This unique program connects students with nature through hands-on learning, team-building activities, and outdoor adventures right here in our local community. Through LOOP NOLA, students have the opportunity to build confidence, strengthen relationships with their peers, and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment. We look forward to seeing our 5th graders grow, explore, and make lasting memories during this incredible experience!
Willow Middle School students did the Bunny Hop at a recent Morning Meeting! It's a long-standing tradition and a fun way to celebrate spring.
Our 7th grade orchestra, led by Dr. Jurjevich, is a collaborative ensemble where students continue to refine their technical skills while growing as confident musicians. Through our orchestra program, students develop discipline, teamwork, and a deep appreciation for music.
In Ms. Maldonado’s 6th grade ELA class, students strengthened their editing and revision skills through a gallery walk. As they rotated around the room, they reviewed written pieces, provided feedback, and reflected on how to improve their own writing. Bravo to our 6th grade editors!
Willow 7th graders recently took a field trip to three important sites in the French Quarter. At Preservation Hall, students experienced the powerful tradition of live New Orleans jazz, while their visit to Louis Armstrong Park and Congo Square deepened their understanding of the city’s cultural roots and musical heritage. The trip concluded at the The Presbytère, where students explored engaging exhibits on Louisiana’s history and traditions. It was a meaningful and memorable day of learning beyond the classroom.
Willow Middle School kicked off our Spring season of Girls on the Run! The students are learning about team work and self-confidence while preparing to run a 5K in May. We are so proud of our GOTR team!
At Willow Middle School, Ms. Hardy-Young’s Project Lead the Way classes recently held their PLTW Expo, giving students the chance to showcase their final projects to parents/guardians and peers. It was inspiring to see the creativity, problem-solving, and innovation on display—what an exciting way for students to celebrate their hard work and learning!

Students in our Lagniappe Gardening class sponsored by Dr. McKarty have been busy getting their hands in the soil and watching their hard work grow! This season, they have planted and are caring for a variety of vegetables, including broccoli, tomatoes, cabbage, eggplant, cucumbers, and more! Through this hands-on experience, students are learning about plant life cycles, responsibility, and the importance of healthy foods. We can’t wait to see these garden beds continue to flourish as our young gardeners nurture their crops!
