Boo!! Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween from Willow Middle School!

Last night's PTSA Soiree was packed with 90s costumes, great music, and lots of wonderful time with parents and staff. We are grateful for our community!

Following a thorough investigation of the Willow Middle School campus this morning, the Fire Marshal has cleared the building for re-entry. Students are currently in the gym, attending our MS assembly. The school day will proceed as normal. The investigation determined the cause of the burning odor to be a broken fan motor. A technician is on site. We are grateful to all students, staff and parents for their cooperation and swift response.
A suspicious burning odor was detected in one room at Willow Middle School this morning, and we have evacuated the building out of an abundance of caution. Students and staff are safely evacuated to the field. We will follow up with another message once we know more. Please wait for further communication; there is currently no need for students to be picked up.
Staff members Megan Neelis, Janine Murry, Nicole Buckels, Tai Teamer, Sheila Banks and Therese Fitzpatrick represented the Willow School at the Arts Schools Network Annual Conference in Birmingham, Alabama this week. The school was acknowledged as a national Exemplary Arts School. While away, the team participated in impactful experiences focusing on teaching anti-racism and equity through the arts.

Congratulations to our Prides of the Week and our Leaders of the Pack- Ms. Robinson and Ms. Teamer!

On Tuesday, we held a Safety Summit with our community partners and experts in school safety and wellness. We discussed the established protocols for safety and student support at our school. Thank you to all of the parents who joined us at the Safety Summit.

Geaux Lions!! We cheered for our varsity football team at their Homecoming game.

During our assembly, we had special presentations for Hispanic Heritage Month. Students performed danced and shared a poster created to learn more about Hispanic and Latin American cultures.

Three Willow School teachers are included among 89 winners of New Schools for New Orleans' 2023 New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Awards (NOETA). Congratulations to Ms. Marquise Reine, our Lower School Assistant Principal; Ms. Danette Thierry, Middle School Social Studies teacher; and Mr. Shawn McCrea, our High School Stagecraft teacher.
