NOLA-PS Back to School Boogaloo for kids ages 6 months to 18 years: Saturday, July 13 , 10 am–1 pm, Joe W. Willow varsity soccer midfielder Sebastian Salm has won the GATORADE LOUISIANA BOYS SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR award! The award celebrates the nation’s top high school athletes for excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Salm led the Lions to a 23-0-4 record and the Class 3A state championship this past season. He scored seven goals and passed for 10 assists, logging four of those setups in the postseason. His influence and control during the state championship match earned him the Most Outstanding Player award. He has lifted The Willow School to three straight Division III state titles and was an All-State Defensive Most Valuable Player honoree in 2024. Salm has volunteered locally with the Culture Air Nola food bank and with the Lafitte Trash-Clean-Up. Congrats, Sebastian!
School may be out for the summer, but Willow School staff members are always seeking opportunities to grow and learn in preparation for the next school year. Many teachers and administrators recently attended the Louisiana Department of Education's Teacher Leader Summit, an annual professional learning conference that brings together Louisiana birth-to-grade-12 educators and content experts.
Team Willow (staff) celebrated the end of the school year at the park. What a great way to wrap up the year! Thank you, Willow faculty, staff and administration, for another fabulous year! Now, time to prep for 2024-25!
Congratulations to Willow High School senior Tyran Zardies Jr., who won this year’s Stay in School Car Giveaway. Zardies, who plans to study finance at LSU, walked away with a 2024 Toyota Corolla LE from Premier Automotive Group/Toyota of New Orleans for being one of 60 NOLA Public School students to have perfect attendance in their senior year of high school. He was randomly selected via a raffle. The Orleans Parish School Board contributed $2,777.96 to help cover taxes and registration fees for the vehicle giveaway.

The Willow Class of 2024 attended the Lower School Morning Meeting today for their Senior Send-Off. After singing "Learning the Willow Way," they received graduation caps made by the kindergarten and fourth grade buddies, and the seniors toured the school and played on the playground. Congratulations, Seniors!
Meteorologist Amber Wheeler from Fox 8 stopped by to share her expertise with our Willow School 2nd graders. Second grade has been researching different weather phenomena this quarter.

Alex Eskew and Vinnie Liu will be attending Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Ivan Barrosse and Fa'ryn Jones will be attending Villanova University in Philadelphia. This past Saturday the Willow Lions Track and Field team represented very well. The boys 4x800 meter relay not only put together a winning race but one for the record books. The Lions championship race time of 7:56.34 shattered the previous class 4A of 8:05! Sophomore Anthony Allen in his first individual state event won the boys 800m run with a time of 1:56.98. Junior Mia Mahony, after a heartbreaking elimination from the regional meet last year due to a false start in the 300h, bounced back big time with a 1st place performance and a time of 44.02. Other noteworthy performances include Alexander Tillero's 3rd place finish in boys mile and a 4th place finish in a very fast boys 4x400 meter relay. Even though the 4x400 team did not medal in the race, their time of 3:22.85 qualifies them to the national high school championship meet in Eugene, OR next month. The 4x800 relay team and Mahony's 300h performances also earned entry into the national meet.

Isaiah Felix participated in the 2024 National Elementary Chess Championship in Columbus Ohio from 4/26 - 4/28. He had a great time and finished in the top 20 for his section, earning himself a medal. He is going to go to the middle school nationals in 2 weeks and is hoping he can do well there as well. Way to go, Isaiah!
Please vote for My-Anh Holmes to win high school Athlete of the Week. Willow tennis two-time state champion singles tennis player who won the Division II finals.
