Three Willow School teachers are included among 89 winners of New Schools for New Orleans' 2023 New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Awards (NOETA). Congratulations to Ms. Marquise Reine, our Lower School Assistant Principal; Ms. Danette Thierry, Middle School Social Studies teacher; and Mr. Shawn McCrea, our High School Stagecraft teacher. The NOETA was presented alongside a $1,000 Classroom Excellence Grant at the annual NOETA Gala on Oct. 21. These amazing teachers represent the top 3 percent of educators in the city!

The Mayor's Office of Youth and Families' 2023 Mayor For a Day Essay Contest is now accepting submissions through Oct. 30. The program aims to foster and encourage leadership in young people living in New Orleans. New Orleans youth ages 11 to 18 are invited to write essays about what New Orleans would be like if they were Mayor for a day. Three winners will be selected and given the opportunity to be sworn in and shadow the Mayor for a day. Willow Middle School Cross Country competed in the Christian Brothers Invitational over the weekend. Emma Aldana Huelga finished in 1st place overall with a time of 12:38 in the two mile. Our girls team placed 6th and our boys team placed 5th overall. Go Lions!

National Hispanic Heritage Month dedicates time every Sept. 15-Oct. 15 to honor the cultures, experiences and stories of Hispanic and Latinx Americans.
Parents/guardians, if you completed your background check at the beginning of last school year, it is about to expire! To volunteer at school and on field trips, the school must have a current background check on file. Background checks are good for one calendar year. Orleans Parish residents may obtain your record at the police department located at 715 S. Broad St. It is an easy process that will take 15 mins and cost $5 cash. If you live outside of Orleans Parish, please visit that parish police department. Once done, please bring the original document (copies are not accepted) to the school office to be kept on file.

Today is the final day to apply for free/reduced lunch. You must fill out the free/reduced form to qualify for the free/reduced lunch program, even if you qualified last year. If you find you are in need at a later date you can apply then. The link to make payments to a student’s online cafeteria account and apply for free or reduced meals is www.schoolcafe.com. The district is NOLA Public Schools, which is our food service vendor. Your child's schoolcafe account number is the PowerSchool ID number with "WS" after it.

Support our student athletes by signing up to work a shift at the concession stand or be a part of the Chain Crew. Concessions Shifts are two-hour increments and include set-up, taking orders, break down. A concessions manager will be in charge and helping out for each event. Admission to the game is covered for anyone working concessions. Chain Crews work the entirety of the game (standing and moving up and down the field to mark downs) and should be here at least 30 minutes prior.
